...NCAA/Buick Human Highlight Reel: Asad Abdul-Khaliq

This is my submission for the NCAA/Buick Human Highlight Reel.

I interviewed the former starting quarterback for the University of Minnesota (1999-2003) for the assignment.  I had 60 seconds to tell his story and this is what came out of my interview.

Here's the brief: A tragic event caused Asad Abdul-Khaliq to reflect on his situation at the time as an athlete, a father and a husband.  He co-founded the non-profit Student Athletes With Children to prepare student athletes for the real world after sports

You can also see it on the NCAA site: http://www.ncaa.com/buick.  Go to Fan Submissions > Asad Abdul-Khaliq.

Energy comes in various forms, but there is a special energy that is transferred from person to person when our way of being is at our highest possibility. We all come from the same source of energy, we all are one, our matter gives us life. When everyone realizes that "we all matter" the positive energy created can change the world.

...Arrivals/Departures

[Sorry for the late post.  The exhibit is over now, but what the hey.]

ARRIVALS/DEPARTURES, has been put together by 14 women artists/writers around the theme of Women’s Experience of Migration Under Globalization. The central idea is that almost everyone in the United States knows someone who came to the US from another country or whose parents did; and perhaps they have shared with you the needed years of adjustments.

The artists featured in ARRIVALS/DEPARTURES view migration as not just a policy or legal or labor issue; but rather as a life-altering experience, which create the diversity that characterize us as a nation.

Not only are the women involved of such a wide array of ethnicities, their works are astoundingly fresh and original.

Arrivals Departures
Opens March 17, 2011, 7pm-10pm

...Kevin and Sarlyn: He's a little princess, she's snobby...

What can I say about my puppets...I mean...Kevin and Sarlyn (aka Kevlyn)? Long story, short, I played match maker to this fun couple.

Short story, long, Sarlyn visited NYC with some of her friends October 2008. She was in the market for a man, and I told her I had just the guy for her. She resisted any sort of friendly reference, but I knew I had to at least introduce her to my friend Kevin.

I came home for Thanksgiving in 2008 and head out on the town with Sarlyn, Kevin and the ever so beautiful Cecille. We have a great time and end up at Dick's where we all ate burgers and fries. There was a lot of banter back and forth and we just had a fantastic time.

Fast forward to January 2009, Sarlyn is back in NYC. She apparently is now talking to a guy, but she won't tell me who he is! So by the time she gets back to Seattle, she basically tells me who he is...and it's Kevin! Win!!! I was hurt because I was the last to know, but only for a few seconds because I was happy they were together.

Since I'm in NYC now, I have spent most of their relationship on the sidelines. I had to see all their overly mushy sweet nothings on Facebook. It was like I was back in 6th grade - them being extremely happy and wanting the world to know and they didn't care how annoying it was. Fantastic! The constant postings tapered off after a while and it was like I was seeing their relationship grow and mature via Facebook. Blessing and disguise, right?

Well they eventually got engaged and are planning to get married in October of 2011. They visited NYC in December 2010 to take in NYC during the holidays and had asked that I shoot an engagement video for them during their trip. OF COURSE!

So here it is. Congrats to the happy couple! Thanks for asking me to be a groomsman, a roaster and a part of the wedding video team! Hope you enjoy your video!

Happy 3 Year Anniversary too! (02/28/11)

...Los Rakas - Kalle (Official Music Video)

I present to you the video for Los Rakas - Kalle.  We shot this back in July 2010, so technically this was my second music video.  Glad we were able to release it after all the touring Los Rakas did for the second half of 2010.  These guys have great talent and I hope this video did justice to their music as well as NYC.

about this blog

What started out as a place to keep family and friends up to date with my move from Seattle to NYC turned out to be much more. Now it's a place to showcase some photography, write some rumblings, and just give everyone a slice of life. Enjoy!
